The drawn images are a plan for what my actual digi pack is going to look like.
  The Image to the left is going to be the front cover of my album. It Is basically the artists on his own playing an instrument. I Think it would be good to show the artist on the cover as he will be easily recognized by his fans. It also contains the main characteristics of an album cover as it shows the name of the artist and the name of the artist.


This is going to be an images inside of the digi pack. During the song "I'm happy your happy" it shows a boy and a girl who date. The artists likes the girl but she is in a relationship and she has no idea how he feels. I think it would be good to show the boy and the girl looking at each other with the artist in the middle.

In the song it shows the artist writing lyrics to the song. I thought it would be a good idea to show the piece of paper being written on but instead of the lyrics show the track listing on the paper. This is going to be my back cover of my album.






This is going to be another inside image showing the artist alone in the background with his guitar cover half the image. This gives the audience another image of the artist and his guitar which you wouldn't get with just buying the album.

Tom - in these posts can you make sure that you state what the two ancillary tasks are that you are going to tackle? You also need some research into album adverts. Can you also check that you have a clear and full description of your target audience and upload your storyboards etc.

synopsis of film and sequence

For my music video they will be three main characters with the artists playing the main role. The story will contain the musician playing throughout with a story line during the video. The artists song is called "I'm happy your happy" And I am going to base it on the artists feelings for a girl although she is already in a relationship with someone else and isn't interested in him. In the end he finally see's that there is no point feeling the way he does so he goes back to his friends and has a good time. It will contain shots of the girl and her boyfriend.

planning - equipment and technologies being used

the equipment and technologies that are going to be used are a tripod and a video camera. The tripod will ensure my shots keep still and help me move the camera without it shaking to create realism. The camera will be used for recording the music video. I will have to use an ipod so when the music video is being recorded it will be lip sinked. I will be using photoshop and InDesign These will be used to help me create digipack and poster. I will also be using final cut to edit my music video.

ancillary task examples

Here are two examples of similar products to what i am going to use for my other two ways of advertising my artist. One is a digi pack and the other is an advertisement promoting the album which would appear in a music magazine such as NME. A digi pack maybe something that is advertised online and offers something extra than just buying the album itself from a store. It may contain and extra track or information about the artists or the album. I think this is another good way of advertising and promoting the album.Of course a digi pack uses codes and conventions which i will need to follow. these will include : visuals are key to the promotion, Images of the artists/band and instruments. Lists of songs included. The album name and the name of the band or artist. Information about the artist. there background and type of music. reviews e.g four stars. The top image is the back cover of Keith Urban's Greatest hits. Here is a country singer and it shows him playing the guitar but also containing the track details. The other image is the album cover for a Keith Urban album. It shows him on his own in a secluded area. This is a great example for my digipack as i will be using something like this

I have realised that i am going to need to brand my artist for the three products that I am going to produce.  After looking at different artists they tend to keep a similar image all the time. An example of this would be pete Doherty who tends to wear hats whist in the media and smoke cigarettes. I am going to keep the same brand image as fans of the artists usually like them for their image too and if you changed their image they may go off the artist.

Taylor swift is one of the biggest acoustic folk artists in the world. The record label she is associated with is big machine records. This is important because they specialise in country music. As this is the genre i am going to use the artist would most likely be associated with this sort of label which have a specific genre. The role of the music video is to advertise the music video even more than just on the radio or charts. This is because of my audience questionnaire where i found people often use sites such as youtube and watch music channels to find out about music.

audience research

I made an audience questionnaire to help me when making my music video. when i asked what genre of music do they listen to the most popular answers where pop, indie, R&B and acoustic folk. I think this shows that there is room for a younger generation which like the genre acoustic folk. When asking what the audience prefer in a video either narrative or genre i found the results very similar. This has helped me as in my video i am now going to include both so the video will appeal to everyone. When i asked what do they like the music video to be like i found that the most popular answer was to fit the song instead of random. Because of this i am going to include shots in my video which fit with the lyrics. I also tried to found out where the audience watch music videos. I found that they watch music channels and watch them on the internet on sites such as youtube. Because of this i found that my audience are specifically going out there way to watch them. Because of this is would be good to advertise my video on the internet

Top 10 album sales ever

After looking at the top ten albums of all time i have found that there is a wide range of genres in the top ten. Michael Jackson was clear of any other album with thriller. This was the genre of pop. ACDC where also in the top ten with the rock genre. The Bee Gees with disco and pink floyd with progressive rock. although the genre of the music what i have chosen isnt in the top ten Shania Twain came 11 with 39 million albums sold. i think this shows there is still room for acoustic folk to be a popular genre which is why i have chosen that genre for my video.

media laguage of different music vidoes

Music videos usually use specific traits and ideas. Music vidoes dont have to have a narrative but some do to fit the lyrics and tempo of the song. whether a song has a narrative or not can sometimes depend on the genre of the song in the video. Often in songs about love a simple storyline is added to show what the lyrics of the song are about. Altough in a genre such as indie i have found that there isnt really a narrative. I think this is because the audience of the indie/rock music genre are more intrested in appreciated the music and the instruments being played than a narrative itself. The mise en scene also tends to be different too. I have found in songs about love the lighting tends to be high hey to show the song as happy and appeal to everyone. In the indie genre the lighting seems to be more low key and less appealing. This is because they are already trying to appeal to a specific audience and not everybody. Now i have watched these music video i have found that they do fit goodwins theory and different genres do have different styles. Because my genre of music is acoustic folk this meens there is going to be a narrative that fits the song. although the music being played is also going to be in the video so that the music can be appreciated by a certain audience.

Here is the indie rock genre of music

 The three music videos that i have chosen are elliot smith- miss misery, taylor swift-you belong with me and arctic monkey- the view from the afternoon. The arctic monkeys the view from the afternoon is a different genre of music of which i am going to chose for my video and follows different traits than the other two music videos which are a similar genre. I have added this video to show the different conventions which the type of video's use. This probably due to there genre. In Taylor swift it shows the love journey which she goes through trying to get the boy which she likes. In elliot smith it shows the artist walking down a street. Although it is simple it still shows a journey even if it is low key.

Initial ideas

A music video is a new way of promoting music and a new way of getting an audience to hear an artists song. A man called Andrew Goodwin came up with features which typified a music video narrative. He believed that there is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals and the music and the visuals. A particular genre of music has its typical style of video and usually its own conventions. A music video is probably the the only type of video where there doesn't have to be a narrative and can do anything it wants. Sometimes they can have a narrative but a lot of time they don't make sense at all. This could be because people want to see the artists as they can be seen as icons.. An artists can develop there own iconoligy, This is where an image is created of an artist and becomes part of them throughout there musical career. .I am Tom Bousfield and my initial ideas are going to portray an acoustic/folk solo artist playing a song called 'I'm happy your happy" Due to the song name and the genre of music some of the ideas that i have at the moment are going to contain the musician playing with a narrative during the song e.g the emotions of a person during the day. I am going to decide my audience by putting them into characters. Gender, Race, Age, Special interest. I think the gender of the music genre would appeal to everyone.i think the race would appeal to british and western americans. The age would be over 40 as this genre of music has only just started getting popular again. Although i do think there is a group for a new young growing audience as the genre will be looking to expand to a wider audience. To find out i am also going to do an audience questionnaire to find out if a younger audience would be interested in the genre. If so i will also try to appeal to them in my video. I think there definitely is a specific interest as it isnt the most popular genre of music e.g. there is a country folk show on a weekend night on radio 2.
